Social Housing Project – Whitecourt
Building Type
Mixed-Use / Affordable Housing / Supportive Services
Hightlights
This project incorporated fifty-six affordable housing units and two commercial units, comprised of a daycare and a retail store. The project was intended to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families, including those requiring barrier-free access. The project was intended to provide emergency and transitional services to women and families fleeing violence.
Main floor apartments are provided with private garden areas, while second and third floor apartments have dedicated balconies. A “loop” green park encouraged interaction with green areas while acting as a noise and visual barrier between the street and adjacent hotel. This park encouraged community and safety to be front and center.
