THE BASICS

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?

Getting outside. I love to snowboard and play hockey in the winter and then camping and hiking in the summertime. I also enjoy the creative arts and like to paint, draw, and sculpt/build in my free time.

Where did you grow up?

Born and raised in Edmonton.

Who or what inspired(s) you to pursue your profession?

I’ve always enjoyed creating things. In high school, I performed the best in Art and Shop class. Building and drawing were both passions of mine, and I saw architecture as the perfect career for working in those two fields.

THE RANDOM

Do you have any hidden talents?

I was an accomplished hockey and lacrosse player in my younger years. I was drafted to Seattle in the WHL and continued to play hockey until my second year of university. I was also the captain of Team Alberta lacrosse and helped the province bring home its first bronze medal at nationals.

What publications do you read regularly?

I regularly read ArchDaily and Dezeen, which are both architecture publications.

What are some causes you are passionate about?

I am passionate about the Sauna and the positive physical and mental effects of regular use. My family has a cabin equipped with one and it is a mainstay of social activity and daily routines when we are there. It is a dream of mine to help design and develop a project that features one.

What are some unique skills you bring to your job?

I have had a wide range of construction-related jobs that I worked at during the summer months between hockey seasons. These experiences gave me a very well-rounded understanding of the various parts of construction and development and hands-on experience with demolition and installation.

What is something you are looking forward to?

I am looking forward to becoming a registered architect. It is something I have wanted to do since I was about 14 years old, and after the 7 years of education plus the internship it’ll be an exciting milestone to finally reach.
