JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Architectural Technologist is responsible for creating and coordinating contract documents, reviewing drawings, coordinating with consultants, L7 staff, and clients, while supporting projects through to contract administration and completion. The position provides technical expertise to the firm and acts as the technical lead on architectural design projects, participating in the design and construction process as well as providing input or support to achieve project objectives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
This role encompasses but is not limited to the following duties:
Drawing & Details Delivery:
- Prepares working drawings ensuring that they are coordinated effectively, having regular correspondence with consultants to make sure everything is up to date
- Prepares markups on the drawings and makes corrections, prioritizing projects based on urgency
- Ensures timely and accurate design and delivery of drawings and plans
- Ensures and enforces that all drawings and designs created are aligned with current drafting/design standards, including the use of revision control
- Maintains accurate, up to date filing and cataloguing of drawings and plans
Design & Construction Support:
- Research construction materials and methods for specific project application
- Provides guidance on architectural details to contract document production team
- Prepares, coordinates, and reviews written project specifications and understands the relevance as they relate to the contract documents
Quality:
- Remain informed of current technologies and materials through attendance at relevant seminars and product demonstrations
- Assists in the development and maintenance of company drafting standards and standard details
- Ensures drawings, building details and drawing templates are in compliance with applicable building codes and standards, escalating issues on the projects to the attention of the Project Architect
- Maintains current company drafting and design standards
- Keeps up to date on building codes, drafting/design practices
- Maintains capability on Microsoft Office 365, Sketch-up, REVIT and AutoCAD software
Client Care:
- Regularly communicates with clients and consultants to maintain company’s reputation for quality
- Endeavors to provide ongoing, clear, and concise communication to clients and consultants
- Strives to provide quality details and drawings, creating trust and rapport with clients
Business Development:
- Assists in the development and administration of professional design service contracts
- Drafts RFP, RFQ and Consultant Agreements
- Oversees packaging of bid documents
- Participates in consultant selection
- Negotiates or assists in the negotiation of fees
- Communicates with senior staff and external contacts
- Manages, directs, monitors and reviews work of design consultants to ensure contract terms are met
- Makes internal and external professional presentations to the business
Project Leadership:
- Confident in resource planning, budgeting, change management, scope management, scheduling, and unforeseen issues in managing a project from start to end
- Manages internal project team requirements such as reporting, review and coaching on recommendations for areas of improvement
- Understands the impacts, benefits and risks of various design/technical options on a project
- Understands the needs and expectations of clients
- Demonstrates high importance of project budget during design, drawings, and construction
- Understands the principles of budgeting and financing
- Demonstrates an understanding of working with contracts

Project Management / Coordination:
- Effectively composes and presents written architectural reviews or reports, including findings and recommendations regarding approval and permitting of project
- Prepares clear and concise reports, drawings, notes, correspondence and other written materials
- Prepares, interprets and evaluates planning documents, construction documents and complex design materials
- Performs site evaluations, assessing physical and environmental constraints, the potential for development, and meeting authority goals / requirements, and stakeholder interests / concerns
- Provides professional expertise, support, and consultation to staff, and government officials (including city or municipal representatives) or other external contacts
- Provides architectural oversight to staff, tenants and applicable construction contractors
- Provides field clarification, interpretation and input to contractors
- Monitors work during construction for conformance with architectural plans and specifications
- Responsible for the review and approval of submittals, change order requests and change orders
- Reviews invoices and identifies discrepancies
- Attends project close-out meetings and provides feedback upon project completion
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education
Post-secondary diploma in Architectural Technology from a recognized Institution. Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, PDF editing software, Harvest time tracking, MS Office.
Experience
Minimum eight years related experience in an architecture firm. Strong knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures. Understanding of building construction and the value of effective technical documents. Knowledge of technical detailing, construction process, construction industry. Ability to visualize in 3D. Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, PDF editing software, Harvest time tracking, Microsoft Office 365.
